Montgomery County residents of all ages are invited to spend one day giving back to their communities and their neighbors in need by working on any one of a variety of projects throughout the county for the 23rd annual Community Service Day (CSD) October 24-25.

Groups can develop their own projects to be completed in just a few hours or consider the many opportunities offered by nonprofits through the Volunteer Center's Web site.

The County's five Regional Services Centers are actively involved with CSD by planning projects in each of their respective communities - Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Eastern Montgomery County, Mid-County; Silver Spring and Upcounty.

What began as Community Service Day in Montgomery County 22 years ago has become a national day of service known across the country as Make a Difference Day. In 2009, the day is part of President Obama's United We Serve national campaign. Still known locally as Community Service Day, it operates under the direction of the County's Volunteer Center

"This is a great way to do good things - for your community or neighborhood, for those in need and for yourself," Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett said. "Take the time to help that weekend or donate funds, food or other needed items in advance." For more information about CSD, contact the Montgomery County Volunteer Center at 240-777-2600.
