Crosby S. Noyes Education Campus was selected as a 2009 Blue Ribbon School, Mayor Adrian Fenty announced. The 2009 Blue Ribbon program, a nationwide competition sponsored by the federal Department of Education, recognized 264 public schools this year for excellent or dramatically improved performance on state assessments.

"Noyes Education Campus is truly deserving of this recognition," said Mayor Fenty. "The Noyes Education Campus community exemplifies the commitment, collaboration, and pursuit of excellence that my administration encourages in every District school."

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program, created in 1982, celebrates schools that are excelling according to national and state education standards. Noyes Education Campus is one of six District schools selected as Blue Ribbon Schools between 2006 and 2009. A school is eligible if:

1. It scores in the top 10% on its state's assessment regardless of student background; or

2. It achieves dramatically increased state assessment scores and 40% or more of its student body qualifies as low-income or disadvantaged.

In 2009, a total of 246 public elementary, middle and high schools were chosen nationwide. Fifty private schools were also selected. The Chief State School Officer (CSSO) nominated each public school, and Council for American Private Education (CAPE) nominated each private school. Schools that accept the nomination undergo review by a federal assessment panel. Representatives from all 264 recipient schools will convene in November in Washington D.C. for a national conference recognizing their achievements.

"When you walk into Noyes Education Campus it's clear that every adult in the building is focused on teaching and learning," said Chancellor Michelle Rhee.  "Principal Ryan and his dedicated teaching staff have an overwhelming commitment to meeting needs of kids. Whether it's enrichment or academic interventions, each student receives the individual attention they need to succeed."

Noyes Education Campus, located at 2725 10th Street, N.E., serves 347 District students. Noyes was recognized as a DCPS TEAM school for achieving more than a 20% increase in DC Comprehensive Assessment System (CAS) reading and mathematics scores in the 2006-2007 school year. Noyes routinely hosts District-wide professional development events for area schools, and is a host school for Howard University teachers in training.
