Residents, visitors 'Hoop It Up' at RFK

WASHINGTON, D.C. - More than 60 teams took to the blacktop on the RFK Stadium grounds this weekend for the Hoop It Up tour's Washington, D.C. stop. Together, the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission and Best Experiential Properties brought Hoop It Up, the largest 3on3 basketball tournament in the world, back to D.C. Players also participated in free throw and dunk contests and a three point shoot out. It was a great weekend for outdoor fun, as families and friends cheered for their favorite teams.

Youtube sensation Kenny Dobbs electrified the crowd Saturday afternoon, winning the dunk contest. The Hoop It Up Slam Dunk contest was held Saturday afternoon. Kenny DobbsThe slam dunk contest, which was open to all tournament players and the general public, was won by Kenny Dobbs, who earned a perfect score of 30 and a rousing standing ovation for his final dunk. Erik Moses, CEO of the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, served as one of three judges for the slam dunk contest.

The tournament featured eight divisions. The team led by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, named Ariel Slow and Steady, shared the Division 1 - Men's Top Flight championship with Ariel Investments. The Ariel Investments team was led by Ariel Chairman and CEO John W. Rogers, Jr. The top four teams in each division automatically qualify for the World Championship tournament July 25-26 in Louisville, Ky.

Maryland Congresswoman Donna Edwards attended the competition on Sunday to watch her son, Jared Coleman, who played with the Dream Killers in Division 2 - Men's Competitive. Coleman's team qualified for the World Championship tournament.
