After defeating the Connecticut Sun on the road 82-70, the new and improved Washington Mystics got off to a slow start in the season home-opener against the Atlanta Dream last Saturday. Midway through the first quarter the team got their game legs back as rookie Forward Marissa Coleman and Matee Ajavon played with heart and hustle. Ajavon shot 50 percent from the floor, finishing with 8 points.
After missing preseason with an ankle injury and a lackluster performance against the Sun, veteran guard Alana Beard poured on the offense contributing 27 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals in the win. Beard said that the key to victory was getting everyone involved in the 2nd half. Center Crystal Langhorne finished with 10 points and 8 boards.
The Washington Mystics next home game is June 20 vs. Chicago Sky. For more information about the team, visit washingtonmystics.com.
