Teens 12 to 18 who reside in Montgomery County can demonstrate their filmmaking skills and participate in the Teen Summer Reading 2009 Video Contest.  The contest was developed by members of the Teen Advisory Group in cooperation with Montgomery County Public Libraries.

Videos may range from short commercials to mini movies, but must be no longer than five minutes. Teens may submit entries as individuals or as part of a team.

The theme of this year's reading program is "Express Yourself," and while it is not a required element in the video, participants are encouraged to incorporate the theme when possible. The video must also include the following information:  Montgomery County Public Libraries, Teen Summer Reading 2009 and the dates - June 17 to August 15, 2009.

For rules and forms go to www.montgomerycountymd.libguides.com/teensite. Contest information is also available at all library branches.

The winner will be announced on May 22 and will be awarded a $100 gift card.  The winning video will be broadcast on county cable channels and the library's Web site, and will be sent to county middle schools and high schools to promote summer reading.

The deadline for submission of the required forms and videos is May 15.  Videos may be emailed to MCPLTeenSummerReading2009@gmail.com or put on a DVD and submitted to a local library.
