The annual White House Easter Egg Roll will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, April 13, on the South Lawn of the White House, for children ages 10 and under. This year's theme, "Let's Go Play," will focus on ways to encourage students and families to lead healthy and active lives.
The Department of Education (DOE) and DCPS collaboratively chose Plummer as the location for the announcement and to receive tickets, based on their growth in student achievement and other factors. The Secretary's office was also impressed by letters written by third grade students describing what they would do if elected President.
"In just a few short months the Obama Administration has sent a clear message about their commitment to public school children in the District and across the country," said Mayor Fenty. "We look forward to continuing to partner on ways to promote student achievement and reward our children for their hard work."
In addition to Plummer, DOE asked Chancellor Rhee to distribute tickets to successful students in schools across the District who would benefit from the opportunity to participate in this extraordinary event at the White House. The Chancellor's office selected 20 schools and principals will identify the students and coordinate chaperones.
The schools include:
Plummer ES | Cleveland ES | Malcolm X ES | Payne ES
Key ES | Emery EC | Miner ES | Ross ES
Barnard ES | Francis-Stevens EC | Martin Luther King ES | Turner @ Green ES
Brent ES | Langdon EC | Montgomery ES | Truesdell ES
Browne EC | Ludlow-Taylor ES | Noyes ES | Webb-Wheatley ES
Also, student athletes from DC high schools H.D. Woodson, Wilson and School Without Walls will volunteer on April 13, to help manage the soccer and basketball stations.
"We sincerely appreciate this Administration's outreach efforts to DC public school students, and we're delighted to offer our hardest-working students this amazing opportunity to be part of history," said Chancellor Rhee.
