District of Columbia: Low-income housing tax credit updates for District residents
Issue date: 2/22/09 Section: Neighborhood
The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) released a new Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) for the District's required Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program (LIHTC).
The mission of DHCD is to create and preserve opportunities for affordable housing, promote economic development, and revitalize underserved communities in the District of Columbia. DHCD focuses on three strategic areas: preserving and increasing the supply of affordable housing through new construction and rehabilitation; increasing homeownership opportunities; and revitalizing neighborhoods, promoting community development, and providing economic opportunities.
Using the Low Income Housing Tax Credit as a tool, DHCD hopes to foster development of housing for individuals with special needs, promote mixed income housing, and prevent the displacement of rental households from the District's changing communities. The plan is available at http://dhcd.dc.gov.
