Collective Voices celebrate Dr. King's Birthday

Collective Voices celebrated the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. January 17 with the 13th Annual Poetry Extravaganza. The audience was warmed on the cold winter day with poetry, song, music and dance.

The event featured performances by Collective Voices, Black Beauty, Kanikki J, and Grandma Slam. Master of Ceremonies Brenardo, Girls with Hearts Kyndall and Monique Brown, Kalonji Linder, dance ministry of Destini Gooden, vocal soloist AnDraea Keene Williams and a host of musicians drummers and dancers shared their gifts with the audience. The District's own poet and children's author Eloise Greenfield delivered special remarks.

POETRY EXTRAVAGANZA was founded, produced and directed by COLLECTIVE VOICES (Ladi Di, Sistah Joy, and Billye Okera) as a tribute to life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in partnership with The Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts, Inc. (C. A. A. P. A.) in collaboration with the Language, Arts and Literature Div. of the MLK, Jr. Memorial Library.
