The Caron Butler Basketball Classic" kicked off January 11 at 2pm showcasing six regional high school basketball teams. The tournament raised funds for the Hoop Magic Education Foundation and was organized by local urban retailer DTLR and Nike.

The audience enjoyed a fun-filled day of basketball, live music, and the high flying air aerobatics of the Washington Wizards dunk team.

The 2pm matchup featured Paul VI (VA) v. Prep Charter (PA). From the beginning Prep Charter was on the ropes because many of their players seemed to lacked basic fundamentals. Late in the fourth quarter Prep Charter mounted a comeback and came within four points but that was as close as they would get before the final buzzer. The final score was 61-55.

The highlight game of the evening was the Heat Academy (VA) vs. Preston Academy (NC). As the Heat Academy took the floor the fans sitting and standing on the right side of the gym shouted, "show them what you got PB." a"PB" are the initials for the Heat Academy's Junior Patrick Lockridge-Beverly. Lockridge-Beverly is the first cousin of Washington Wizards Forward Caron Butler. Lockridge-Beverly put on a show for the crowd and finished with 26 points.
