The mood on the football field at Suitland High on Friday, January 2, 2009 was somber. Hundreds braved the wintry temperatures to salute varsity football Coach David "Nick" Lynch. Students, friends, and family huddled together paying their respects to a man who was loved and respected by many on and off the football field.

Lynch, 43, was killed in a two-car automobile accident Wednesday December 31 just a few minutes from his home in Brandywine.

"We just need to try to draw good strengths that we had about Nick," said Mark Fossett Suitland High School principal stated to the crowd. "We need to try to reflect on those good times."
