"Try!" says $1 million POWERBALL winner Jermaine Jones, who won on Saturday, December 27, 2008. Jones, a Washington, D.C. native, said he and his wife Kirsten use teamwork to buy their tickets. He bought the winning $1 POWERBALL ticket, and she picked the numbers by selecting birthdays. For an extra $1, Mr. Jones also opted for Power Play. The Joneses correctly matched the five white balls out of the winning numbers - 12-15-26-31-43 +10 - to win $200,000, and since the Power Play number was 5, the prize was multiplied five times for a grand total of $1 million.

"We are not going to go crazy with this money," said Jones during an interview at the D.C. Lottery's Claim Center. "We are keeping our same car that needs fixing, and we still have kids to send to college," he said, adding that he and his wife may use some of their winnings to purchase a house, but are going to think about their options. Jones, who said he has played and won the D.C. Lottery's instant scratch ticket games, bought his ticket at DC Super Market, 539 8th Street, N.E.

Michael also reminds players to check their tickets carefully as there are nine ways to win with POWERBALL. They should also sign the back of their tickets immediately. Winning tickets worth $599.50 or more must be claimed at the D.C. Lottery's Claim Center located on the Lobby Level of the Frank D. Reeves Municipal Center, 2000 14th Street, N.W. It is open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. To learn more about POWERBALL and the other games that the D.C. Lottery offers, visit www.dclottery.com
