Prince George's County: Council to require foreclosed homes a negotiation
Issue date: 11/2/08 Section: Neighborhood
The Prince George's County Council, during session on October 21, introduced CB-83-2008, legislation requiring owners of foreclosed residential homes to register their property with the Department of Environmental Resources. Failure to register or maintain an unoccupied property could result in stiff fines and penalties.
"We should have a system for tracking foreclosed properties to ensure that their condition does not adversely impact the surrounding neighborhood,'' said Council Member Will Campos (D) - District 2, sponsor of Council Bill 1I3-2008. ''Right now, we rely heavily on our County's residents to identify foreclosed and abandoned homes so there is more that we could do.'' A public hearing on CB-83-2008 is scheduled for November 18, 2008.
