The 2008 Maryland State Senior Olympics begin Saturday, August 30 with the 15th annual Kentlands/Lakelands 5k run, walk and kids fun runs, at the Kentlands Foundation in Gaithersburg.

On Saturday, September 20, a parade of athletes and ceremonial torch lighting will take place at the track and field venue at the Prince George's County Sports and Learning Complex in Landover.  This is the official site of all the MSO track and field events.

The games will run throughout September and October, closing with a 10k race at King Farm in Rockville on Sunday, November 2.  Venues for the events are located around the state, with the majority taking place in Montgomery County.

More than 2,000 athletes over 50 are expected to compete. It is the largest competition of its kind in the Northeast region of the United States. Many competitors will advance to the National Senior Games in August 2009 in San Francisco. For more information, call 240-777-8080.
