Issue date: 8/24/08 Section: Neighborhood
The Ithemba Foundation, supported by the South African Embassy in Washington, will host the annual Taste of South Africa fundraiser September 13, 2008 at the former official residence of the Ambassador from 6 to 10 pm. The event will feature Cape Classics sommelier Zingo Munger pouring South African red and white wines, a silent auction and live performances by Mahala Township Jazz Band. Tickets are $75.
Proceeds from the tickets will benefit Ithemba's youth initiatives in South Africa. Ithemba, which means "hope" in Xhosa and Zulu - two of South Africa's official languages - was chartered in 2002 after several board members visited South Africa and saw the ravaging effects of apartheid. Based in Washington, D.C., Ithemba is a registered 501c3, non-profit organization.
For information, contact ITHEMBA's events director at 301.627.1224 or eventinfo@ithembafoundation.org. Purchase tickets online at: tosa.ithembafoundation.org. Tickets are discounted when purchasing two or more.
