ROCKVILLE, MD - Under the new Chesapeake Green™ Carbon Neutral Wind Power program offered by Clean Currents, Maryland consumers can fight global warming and protect their pocketbooks from rising electricity rates by signing up for wind energy at a fixed rate for one or two years.

Chesapeake Green™ bundles Renewable Energy Credits ("green tags") from wind farms across the nation with electricity from the mid-Atlantic region's electric grid.  The electricity and "green tags" are supplied by Washington Gas Energy Services, a licensed energy supplier in Maryland and D.C.

"This is an easy way for homeowners to make every day Earth Day," said Gary Skulnik, president of Rockville-based Clean Currents. "Most electricity produced in our region comes from coal-fired power plants that pollute our air and contribute to climate change."

Chesapeake Green™ customers will continue to get their monthly bill from their electric utility (Pepco or BGE) with a notation on the bill indicating that they are in the Chesapeake Green program supplied by Clean Currents and Washington Gas Energy Services.  The utility remains responsible for ensuring power delivery and is the first point of contact in the event of a power failure.  Customers enrolled in their utility's budget billing plan can still remain on budget billing.
